When I moved to Meersbrook in 2015, I was immediately taken by the community feel of the area. Something I felt was shown visually in the tradition of leaving unwanted goods outside of your home for others to take.
Having lived in a number of neighbourhoods in Sheffield, it’s only in Meersboork I have experienced this act of community sharing/reusing, and I was amazed by the quality of many of the items people chose to pass onto others for free, rather than trying to sell them.
In celebration of this, I decided to spend a year documenting as many of the items as possible that were left outside people’s homes on the street I live, Rushdale Road (from the bus stop down to the shops).
Here are the results, of course, some things will have been snapped up before I walked by, the odd time I may not have had my phone in to hand and although I walked down the road most days, it certainly wasn’t everyday!
Still, I think the results offer a pretty cool documentation of this kind-hearted community tradition.
